Lugano - the largest city in the Ticino holiday region is not only the third largest financial center and an important congress, banking and business center in Switzerland, but also the city of parks, flower gardens, and villas. Thanks to its Mediterranean atmosphere, Lugano offers all the advantages of a cosmopolitan city without losing its small town character.
Lugano is located in a bay of Lake Lugano, surrounded by several mountains. The historic city center with its Lombard-style buildings and exclusive museums, the mountains, the lake and a comprehensive calendar of events encourage visits, business and relaxation. The lake is bordered by the large Belvedere Garden, which is beautifully adorned with camellias and magnolias, subtropical plants and works of modern art. The high quality of the various exhibitions held in this city of art and architecture attracts many amateurs. The MASI (Museo d'Arte della Svizzera Italiana) exhibits works by Klee, Jawlensky, Renoir and Degas among others.
From the top of the two peaks that dominate Lugano, the San Salvatore and Brè mountains, you can admire the magnificent panorama of the city, the lake and the mountains. Walking trails descend to very pretty fishing villages which have managed to retain their typical appeal. Soak up the sun which makes palm and olive trees bloom and at least take the trouble to sit at a table on a terrace and do like all the inhabitants: nibble, chat and savor the life of Lugano!
